A Message From the CEO

Technology, Social Media Provide Opportunity

Everyone has a different way of learning, and while our traditional nutrition education programs are the backbone of Dairy Council of California, technology—including social media—is opening new doors. The result is that we now reach more kids, parents, teachers and health professionals more times and in more ways. See full story.

New Tools Improve Student Health

With YouTube now the second most popular search engine behind Google, Dairy Council of California is tapping the growing power of video to engage teachers and market its programs through new graphically rich whiteboard animation videos.

The animated video, Teaching Teens Healthier Habits, reflects the increasing importance of video as an informational tool. Dairy Council of CA is sending the video directly to teachers via an email that does double duty as an engagement piece and reminder to order classroom programs. The video acknowledges the concerns teachers have today as they observe student eating behaviors such as skipping meals, drinking energy drinks and following crash diets.

"Middle and high school teachers in particular have told us they would like help keeping their students healthy in today's environment that brings unique nutrition challenges," said LeAnne Ruzzamenti, Dairy Council of CA's Director of Marketing Communications. "The video taps into timely issues in a creative way consistent with how educators and students alike now get their information."

We are Going Digital!

Dairy Council of CA is going digital! Moving forward, we may only be sending electronic communications, except for our annual report, which will continue to be mailed to you. To make sure you get our digital communications, send your email address to KHouse@DairyCouncilofCA.org to sign up for our mailing list.

HealthyElf Makes Healthy Eating Fun

This past holiday season, thousands of children and their families learned about healthier lifestyles through Dairy Council of California’s HealthyElf program. Based on the Elf on the Shelf® phenomenon in which families place a lovable elf in a variety of situations nightly, Dairy Council of CA’s HealthyElf program encouraged parents to place their elves in healthy situations and share their adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
