Students can be nominated for activities like:

  • Leading a nutrition education workshop about healthy eating, including the five food groups
  • Starting a club that encourages physical activity like walking or jogging or dancing
  • Inspiring students and parents to offer nutritious foods at classroom parties and school events
  • Teaching a cooking class with nutritious recipes that include all five food groups
  • Organizing a nutrition education activity at a health fair. Click here for activity ideas
  • Creating nutrition messages to add to the school announcements or a nutrition newsletters
  • Developing a nutrition newsletter for the school or create nutrition messages to add to the school announcements
  • Partnering with the school cafeteria to implement Smarter Lunchroom Movement Strategies

How to Apply:

  1. Download the nomination form here. (Save to your desktop before entering information). 
  2. Complete the nomination form (add additional pages if necessary).
  3. Email the nomination form and photo or video file (if available) to Info@DairyCouncilofCA.org or mail to Dairy Council of California, Attn: Stephanie Frieders, 1418 N. Market Blvd., Ste. 500, Sacramento, CA 95834. Nomination applications must be received by Thursday, March 17, 2017.

Eligibility and Judging Criteria:

Students can be nominated by a school community representative (i.e. teacher, principal, lunchroom personnel, office personnel or parent involved in school activities). Students must attend a school in California and be in grade 4th-12th. Students may be nominated for efforts that have taken place in the last 18 months and will compete in one of two groups:

  • Group 1: students in grades 4-8
  • Group 2: students in grades 9-12

Winners will be chosen based on their efforts as described on the application. School must be in session during the nomination period. Applications must be received by mail or online to Dairy Council of California no later than March 17, 2017. Winners will win a $100 Visa Gift Card, a healthy class party (up to $100) and will be presented with a certificate of appreciation at an appropriate school event, with school approval.

Judges will review applications after the March 17, 2017 deadline and a winner will be selected by April 30, 2017. Winners will be notified and arrangements will be made for distribution of prizes in early May. All photos, video and content submitted in the application becomes the property of Dairy Council of California and may be used for promotion of the program in a variety of media platforms, including but not limited to, the Dairy Council of California website, social and electronic media or in print.
